Ginen i Hila Membership Roster - As of 4-7-21

This was the first group designated in an official capacity to represent the island as previous festivals normally consisted of visual artists, weavers, carvers, cultural singers and dancers. At the urging of J. Lawrence Cruz, former president of the Department of Chamorro Affairs and overall chairperson of Guam’s official delegation, Peter R. Onedera was contacted to form a group comprised of storytellers.

Ginen Gathering - April 10

Håfa Adai, Familian Ginen:  because of the familiar closeness we exhibited at Doring’s funeral services, I’ve suggested to Antonia that we gather again for camaraderie, sharing, laughter and added on with tidbits of fond memories, and just updated info on our lives during and now with this pandemic, therefore; we’ll meet at 6pm at Antonia and Anthony Lloyd’s (Calvo) house at Liguan Terrace at 6pm to, let’s say, 8:30pm and with a potluck menu of food, drinks, desserts, and whatever strikes your fancy. It will be this Saturday, April 10, 2021 and even though social gatherings have been lifted to 50 max, just wear your masks, and the sinks at Antonia’s house will accommodate the washing of hands but bring along your hand sanitizers if you want, too. A thought:  sing the Ginen song for the 20 seconds of the washing of hands, or will it be anyone’s birthday?  Oh, respond through this chat with your intended potluck and if you plan to attend. If it’s just a handful of about five to ten, that would be okay, too. Pass along this message or forward it to any of our family who’s not yet on the address roster of our group chat.

Funeral Service for Dorothea Zita "Doring" Leon Guerrero Jesus

The Ginen i Hila' i Maga'taotao Siha Association familia extends its deepest condolences and sympathies to the family of former Ginen member, Dorothea "Doring" Jesus (formerly Castro), of Chalan Pago. She passed away at the age of 68 from the Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Funeral services were held March 20, 2021 at the Ada's Mortuary.  Church services followed immediately after at the Our Lady of Peace and Safe Journey in Chalan Pago and the burial took place at the Pigo Cemetary.  Our Ginen Familia paid respect to the urn of the cremains of our dearly departed sister, Doring.  We sang songs in memory of her, including the Ginen i Hila i Maga'taotao Siha song.  Below are snapshots from the services.  God bless, and rest in peace, sister Doring.

Condolences for the Jesus Family

The Ginen i Hila' i Maga'taotao Siha Association family extends its deepest condolences and sympathies to the family of former Ginen member, Dorothea "Doring" Jesus (formerly Castro), of Chalan Pago. She passed away at the age of 68 from the Coronavirus (COVID-19). 

She is a retired Guam Department of Education teacher and was part of the FESTPAC delegation to Palau in 2004. May the perpetual light shine upon her, and may her soul rest in peace.
